Our beloved Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley passed away Sunday evening. My mom called to tell us that their television program was interrupted with this breaking news. She thought to call us and tell us as she figured our programs in Houston wouldn't be interrupted...she was right Ü. He was an amazing man with such integrity, faith and the truest example of enduring to the end! I'm grateful to him for his example and his divine inspiration that he shared with us in each of his messages!
Here is a testimony of his that he bore in April 2006:
"I hope that all of you will remember that on this Sabbath day you heard me bear my witness that this is God's holy work. The vision given the Prophet Joseph in the grove of Palmyra was not an imaginary thing. It was real. It occurred in the broad light of day. Both the Father and the Son spoke to the boy. He saw Them standing in the air above him. He heard Their voices. He gave heed to Their instruction.
"It was the resurrected Lord who was introduced by His Father, the great God of the universe. For the first time in recorded history, both the Father and the Son appeared together to part the curtains and open this, the last and final dispensation, the dispensation of the fullness of times.
"The Book of Mormon is all that it purports to be—a work recorded by prophets who lived anciently and whose words have come forth "to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations" (Book of Mormon title page).
"The priesthood has been restored under the hands of John the Baptist and Peter, James, and John. All the keys and authority pertaining to eternal life are exercised in this Church.
"Joseph Smith was and is a prophet, the great Prophet of this dispensation. This Church, which carries the name of the Redeemer, is true.
"I leave you my testimony, my witness, and my love for each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

It was a very spirtual weekend for both dad and I. We both have the lessons in Relief Society and High Priests on the 4th Sunday and we had two talks to choose from the the October General Conference. One of them was Elder Uchtdorfs and the other was from President Hinckley "The Stone Cut Out of the Mountain". I don't ever like to give President Hinckleys talks, in that, well, how do you improve, add to, or make his talks any more impressive than he does. So I always choose another talk and then ask the sisters to be sure and read the Presidents talk if chosen for that month. So, having chosen Elder Uchtdorf's talk I just read President Hinckleys for review. After reading it, I just felt overwhelmed with this feeling that I MUST give this lesson. And so it was with much humility that I gave this lesson and dad decided he would as well. It was a lesson, even though said simply, was so full of deep thought and meaning. It brought forth so much spirit, so many tears, and much thought. Both Craig and I had not a wink of sleep the night before and were quite humbled by the opportunity to be giving this lesson. It wasn't until later that day after the announcement of our modern day prophets death that we both looked at each other and knew why were to give that lesson on this Sunday. With the permission of my sisters I closed my talk with his testimony and I would like to repeat it again here in closing. Be sure and read this talk, on this the last General Conference that he bore his testimony to us all:
"I leave with you my testimony of the truth of these things, and I invoke the blessings of heaven upon you. May the windows of heaven be opened and blessngs showered upon you as the Lord has promised. Never forget that this was His promise and that he has the power and the capacity to see that it is fulfilled. I so pray as I leave my blessing and love with you in the sacred name of our Redeemer, even the Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN
