Toddler Vocab

Makenzi has been talking up a storm lately and trying to have full-on conversations with her parents! So we as parents try to respect that and converse with her as well. Our only issue at hand is the translation of words that have clearly taken on a different meaning in our little toddler's mind! Here are some examples:

Square: Yes, she can recognize the shape "square" when you draw a picture of it, however square ALSO means: toilet paper, wipe, paper towel, and napkin. I believe this one is my fault. Makenzi always wanted to unroll all the toilet paper in the bathrooms so I would tell her that she could only have one SQUARE of toilet paper. Well, since then EVERYTHING is measured out in one square!

Close It: Yes, it means exactly what it says: close it. Well, Makenzi affectionately calls GRAPES "close it's". This one took us awhile to figure out, Jed did the final translation! The grapes are in the bottom drawer in our fridge and everytime we get some grapes out we ask Makenzi to "close it" (the drawer) so we can enjoy the grapes. Hence grapes are now "close it's"

What You Want?: This is now the name of our refigerator and/or all the stuff IN the fridge! Seriously. Makenzi will walk over to the fridge and say "what you want?" so that we will open the fridge and she can pick out what she wants to eat! Such a smartie!

What to Wear: This is now what we call the closet. I suppose because every day after changing Makenzi's bum I walk over to the closet and open it and say "What do you want to wear today?" So now that she's a little older she just walks over there herself and says "What to wear".

(no, this isn't her closet)

It's so fun to listen to her and how every day her vocabulary expands! I'm sure there are more "Kenzi words" but I just can't think of them right now. I'll be sure to add more as they come to mind!

OMGosh!!! What is so great about this, is that, you guys figured out her language! It really goes to show how quick our kiddies pick up on what we say and do!!

I will have some 'squares, ready for her and some 'close its' in my 'what you wants' when you come to visit us.

Too cute hon, thanks for sharing!

I'm glad you wrote down her vocab. It's hard to remember those cute words when they get older.
